Amsterdam Summer School

The Amsterdam Summer School of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam offers interactive small-scale courses (max. 25 students) in an intimate setting. The courses are designed to provide an intensive, in-dept look at your topic of study. You will study with a unique group of peers, from all parts of the world. Encouraging interesting discussions and the development of intercultural competences. 

All courses include built-in excursions to museums and/or institutes such as the Anne Frank House and the International Criminal Court. This extends the learning beyond the classroom and enhance the courses' practical applicability. Close relationships with your instructors, all top lecturers at VU Amsterdam, and a stimulating cultural environment provide a meaningful and lasting experience.

Different housing options are available to all students. We are proud of our high student satisfaction: the Amsterdam Summer School has been credited by its students with an average score of 8.5 out of 10.

You can choose courses from a wide range of fields, varying from Arts & Humanities to Human Health & Life Sciences and everything in between.


Furnished accommodation is available for students. Typically you will have a single room and share your kitchen and bathroom with other students.

Fees and scholarships

The tuition fees vary depending on the courses you choose. An early bird discount is available before 1 March. We offer a scholarship for excellent students and a discount for students from partner universities.
